I know there have been a few post last year on this, i broke my transfer rod over the weekend. it was set between 3/4 and full. the big aluminum housing broke. WARNING it was $500 can. to replace, never mind the cut and grove it left in my track. the inside of my track has a grove down to the wooden bars! i will ride the track this year, but this could easily be a $1000 repair(track and rod). for all you people who are modifing the transfer rod so you don't hear the clunking noise...be warned it is an expensive fix, never mind the danger if the broken rod james the track at high speed

Did you forget to tigthen the lock nut? Not sure how it could break.

yep....seen this before set at 3/4......which is why i ALWAYS keep mine set at MIDWAY at most....lock it in good too.

the heavy banging this rod takes, anything set over 1/2 the alum body threads just cant take it very long till they let go.

feel your pain

Just happened to me too :o|
I was told that this rod never comes apart...I was the 1st. Now I have some lovely grooves in my track.

Not too happy about my ride soo far. Love the engine but between the hyfax wear, the ECS wire snappping twice, the rear shock bottoming out, over heating and this little incident I'm out a few bucks. My wife has been making fun of me becuase I bought the 4-stroke so I won't have to wrench on it. I've spent a lot of days in the garage since I ditched my 2-stroke.

I hope all these growng pains are worth it cause when she works it is a great ride.

my 06 Attak transfer rod had a big bend & allmost broke when set at 3/4 transfer. Got lucky & bent it back.

Yamaha prices on most parts are a rip off and too high compared to the
other big three ! $ 54.00 for suspension wheels and bearings opposed to
$35.00 average cost from the others is just one example !

Looks like there will be a lot of Yama-Doo / Yama-laris / Yama-cat out
there ! Yamaha needs to compete just like all the rest of us !

Yamaha your parts prices are too high !!!! Dont mind paying more for the sled but when they engineer a suspension that eats hy-fax and wheels because the design is wrong and then they turn around and shove it up our @$$ with high parts prices its just not right !

Contact a local machine shop and you can get a one off adjustable tranfers rod made for less than $500.00 Iam sure !

How is that being competive with prices ! Their is a need to post this and yamaha needs to listen !

Can someone explain the 3/4 setting?

I have been at maximum transfer setting for 1000 hard riding miles. No problems yet.

Mine just backed off and pulled apart. I'm going to put take the lock nut off the broken one and place it on my new transfer rod to double up the lock nuts. Hopefully this will cure it. I still can't understand why Yamaha would design this rod to fall apart esp. given that it takes about 5 min to remove it from the machine if you have to take it apartto apart it. It also bangs around alot so it is bound to give me problems in the future

Again...love the fit and finish on the sled and the motor. I ride sport bike and I must admit I am very surprised that OHLINS didn't come up with a better rear shock. They are a very reputable suspension designer/supplier.
