begining or end of season oil change

Was wondering what everyone does, change it at the end so all the dirty oil is not sitting in the engine all summer long. But then the hot humid days that produce condensation, all gets in to nice new oil and you obviously don't change it again when the season starts? I have been leaving it the way it is and changing it in december before the season begins.k[/u]
Start your engine a few times a month in the off season.its a good thing when u get the parts moving around with the oil.if you use good oil, there should be no reason to change.esp if clean or somewhat looking.i have been doing this with all my toyz>>4-stroke<<and no issues.if you have no time, plug your exhaust and intake if you do not want condensation inside engine, drain gas tank, keep battery fresh..

I disagree on the bold as I think it would help promote condensation, leave them unplugged so everything can breath.

Engine & oil will fine either way you approach this way of storage, unless it sits for a long long time.. ;)!

Ive always plugged my exhaust with steel wool to keep mice out.

Steel wool should still allow it to breath imo, as long as it is not packed in there tight?

I store mine in my insulated garage all summer. If you store it in a trailer with some sorball or kitty litter I would not think there would be any moisture to worry about. If you store it outside in the rain then yep you are going to have moisture! Some will build up in the motor of course but the whole damn sled is going have problems!

Keep you sleds inside and or properly sheltered and no problem with moisture! MY humble opinion.

One more ride I hope before its all over then I'll change my oil!

First of all, I rarely go to the 4 stroke side because Im kinda a two stroke kinds guy I look for ideas and suggestions because I bought an APEX XTX a few years ago... LEMME TELL YOU,, Its BEST to change the oil at the end of the season and fill up the fuel tank with either RACE FUEL or, if you cant get at lease 100LL from an airport, use the RECREATIONAL UNLEADED PREMIUM from small towns WITHOUT ALCOHOL... Usually there are gas pumps that sell it on the road to where youre going... STABILIZING the NEW FUEL is a GOOD IDEA but DO NOT TRY and stabilize old fuel.. Its NOT a good idea... I personally SPRAY ABOUT THREE OR FOUR CANS of SPRAY SILICONE on just about EVERYTHING before I put it away for the summer and ESPECIALLY BEFORE I take that FIRST RIDE in the WINTER !!! SPRAY SILICONE will PRESERVE the sled so in TWENTY YEARS,, it STILL LOOKS NEW !!!! As far as the theory of changing oil at the end of the season, the "dirty oil" has " STUFF" in it that you don't want to let sit in your engine OR crankcase Or oil tank ALL SUMMER !!! The deposits from the burned and unburned fuel attack the metals in the engine !!! As far as RUNNING IT ONCE A MONTH,,, DUMB IDEA !!! A by product of Combustion is MOISTURE.. Unless you can GUARANTEE the ENTIRE SYSTEM reaching WELL OVER 212 DEGREES F... you aren't going to evaporate ALL of the moisture out of the engine/ exhaust and you will IN FACT, promote oxidation !!!

I change my oil every fall before using, when storing my sled I put lots of stabilizer in the fuel and run the sled to get it in the throttle body's or carbs, wash off the dirt in your suspension and sled and undercoat everything front to rear, I use rust check, I use leather care to treat your seat afew times over the summer and I do plug my exhaust to keep mice out and set out sticky traps, I agree store in a nice dry spot out of the elements checking over your sled from time to time toping up your battery every now and then also helps with the life of it, I do not start my sled every month and it depends on your climate concerning moisture and humidity temps swing with condensation in your engine over the summer, I think all stored engines suffer from condensation no matter what you do.
