Belt height in secondary ?

A little higher is a little better. Think of the secondary as the rear sprocket on a multispeed bike. The higher up (larger) the sprocket you are on the easier it is to start out. The same rules apply here.
I try to keep the belt sticking out the secondary as far as I can. It may a bit too far because I try to get it as high as I can without the belt squealing too badly at idle. I like to just hear it chirp occasionally at idle. You want to be right there.
Now as your belt wears you can pull out more adjustment washers and allow the secondary sheaves to come closer together making the belt ride higher in the secondary.
A good rule of thumb is about an 1/8" above the secondary is good. personally, if I can get 1/4" sticking above the sheaves I like it even better.

Good Luck

The book states -.020 below to + .060 above is the limit, this is from the yamaha manual. :bling

Thanks for the replies.

I've got it about 1/16" to 1/8" above with a new belt. I get a squeel now and again at idle but I'll leave it that way for now and give it a go once we get some rideable snow.
