New belt (wider and not stretched out yet) equals need to have 2 or maybe 3 washers on each bolt, depending on width of washers.

Then as the belt wears and becomes thinner and stretches out you remove the washers one at a time from all 3 bolts. Really worn belts need no washers.

It's trial and error with each belt because no two belts are the exact same width.

Isn't this backwards??? New belts need no washers as lack of washers spreads the clutch plates lowering a new short belt. Old belts need more washers as this closes the clutch plates therefore raising the strecthed old belt.

I have a brand new belt and it still sits below the secondary??? No issues with clutches or centre to centre. Actually all internal components of both clutches are new/rebuild and it worked fine. Did I get a bad new belt?? My Doo belts would always sit about 1/8 inch above secondary for perfect deflection. This belt thing on the Yamaha is a PITA!!!

I added a belt adjuster on the secondary years ago, and adjust belt height with a simple twist of the adjuster.

Not to Hi jack the thread, but I'm looking for info on the Bender belt deflection adjuster also. Bender has almost no info on there site.

Any info would help, how to install and how it works
