Decided to go for a rip in my back yard and found that both left and right spindles were bent after I brought it back in the yard. Anybody ever heard of this? Last year I grass dragged the sled and never had an issue. I can't understand what the cause was other than I recently had it powder coated. Is it possible the powder coating process of over heating may have weakened the aluminum? Just placed an order for two new ones, nice $500.00 ride in the yard..... :o|

The heat could have ....Never seen that .... rattle can the next set

Thanks, I keep looking at it as if I did not re-assemble it properly but I can't see anything wrong at the moment so the heat is the only thing I can think of. The guy at the dealer said he has not heard of those bending unless it was in an accident.

I've bent one of mine, but not that extreme. I bet once it started it got worse quickly.

it looks like they are bent in the pic in your sig!
your right it does on both sleds .....I think the heat did it maybe he had the oven to hot

Yep, if it was the heat, not baking those again with the new set!!! :o|

I bent one on my sled, took a good whack to do it, never found what I hit or where but same result and mine are not coated.

Lane will have some if you don't mind going used I'm sure.

Powder coating will weaken aluminum.

Go with Anodizing next time, it will not change the integrity of the part.

Thanks, is anodizing robust against chipping? I was simply considering using a Rustoleum on the new set but if anodizing is a common thing locally I will consider doing that instead...

I'm in agreement about the heat theory, unless your back yard is rock quarry. :tg:

In his Sig pic my left spindle is bent from last year crash replacing it now actually. Now worried my right one is going to end just like my dads. Very frustrating

I had both bend on me also. I got them replaced under warranty. It's not from powder coating at all! Mine were both stock. They had stress marks where they bent. I think its the combo or agreesive skis or carbides cause the problem. I used to run Woodys slim Jim's. I also saw a picture in a sled magazine of a cross country sled with reinforcement plates on. We're not the only ones.
