I also forgot to add that I did not hit a thing. Mogul mashing on corners with aggressive carbides did mine in.

Powder coating usually occurs around the 400 degree mark, which is not enough to affect the aluminium. Aluminium Annealing happens at 775 for the few I looked at so unless your coater was wasting gas or electricity, it's unlikely powder coating was the cause.
