Bent tunnel

I have only 150 miles on my phazer and I made a big ooops. I was riding on a trail near my dads cabin yesterday, and snow conditions were decent, but since it is a few degrees above freezing during the day and cold at night the trails were a little slick. I wasn't going that fast, but when I came around one corner, the rear end broke loose and hit a tree, causing the rear of the tunnel to kink. All I can say is I don't like the idea of that big hole in the tunnel under the muffler. I know the tunnel isn't designed for smashing into trees, but I really didn't hit it that fast. I aint sure how to post pictures, but I will see if I can. Hopefully I can get the thing fixed before any serious snow comes.

Other than this, I am very impressed with my Phazer on the performance end of things.

Hmmm, never thought of that. Even that small reduction in tunnel aluminum surely has an affect on the overall strength and rigidity. Sorry you had to have that happen, but you may be onto something for the rest of us.

I may just look into making some cross braces that span across the hole to each side of the tunnel. This should add some support where it's been compromised.

I called the dealer and they are saying $1600 just for a new tunnel, and around 15 hours labor. Good thing I have insurance I guess. I will hopefully be bringing it in today or tomorrow. I will definately be doing something with that hole when I get it back. This is the first time I smashed a snowmobile in around 10,000 miles of riding, and it had to be on my first brand new sled. Oh well I guess, I will be a little more carefull next time. Will probably be studding it.

Aluminum into tree = Bent. Don't care if you reinforce or not.

Less structure = less force required for bending. Reinforcing could bring it up to the specs of all other sleds.

Either way you hit something its not good, it sucks indeed hopefully you can patch it up!

Bent is Bent like Beat is Beat

I did bring the FX in yesterday, after they looked into it more. They are thinking that if they can get the top sheet metal piece (the one with holes for cooling the exhaust) that it may not be that bad of a fix. They won't be able to find out until monday, but the way the microfiche is showing, it looks like the tunnel, heat exchanger, and side bulk heads all come as a package deal. I hope they can just get the top sheet metal piece from Yamaha, otherwise I might just drill all the rivets myself and have a piece identical to it (without the kinks and bends of course) and cut the holes out a little smaller. I would probably go with 1/8th inch thick sheet metal instead of 1/16th inch sheet metal. Mondays phone call will decide what I do. I just might be riding the good ol' V-Max SX over New Years up north. Oh well stupid hurts.
