Bergstrom Skegs, Ski Savers and Shims

I just added the triple points (4") to my Polaris 500 and will be adding them on the Apex (6"). I noticed on the Polaris that I needed to keep tightening or the washers between the nuts (left over from the last skegs)
were still able to rotate under the nut. It is hard to gauge how tight, too tight would be. Hope I have them on at the correct torque. Also added shims while I was at it (1/4"). Now if we could just get some snow.
Grimm, did you talk to Scott Bergstrom about the snapped bolt? He has indicated to me that he wants to know the good and the bad but particularly the bad so he can help diagnose, look at what needs to be changed, improve the product etc.

Yes I did speak with Scott re: snapped bolt. His theory was that it was a cold weld and that I send it back to him and he can send another to replace. I told him I wasn't interested in waiting so long again and felt that it would be better to send it all back for a full refund. We'd be halfway through the season before I'd get the replacement.

I placed an online order with Royal Distributing on Dec.27th and received them on Dec.29th. Now, that's customer service.

Given that groove in the stock skis I don't see how they work if they break from tightening them so much. I think I will just ride the crap out of the stock skis until I need new ones and get Slydogs or an 07 with crappy stock skis again.

I've actually contemplated making my own "ski savers" with a brand new piece of hyfax slider. They are afterall, apparently the same material.

You may be onto something, thats all it is made out of. Maybe a different profile? You can buy poly off the web and mill it with wood working equipment, I just don't know if it would be worth all the time needed to come up with a good bolt on design. Got me thinking though...

Just knock off the side pieces and then the center portion could very well fit into the channel of a ski, hmmm?
