The best mirrors I've found are Polaris's XC mirrors. I put them on my 03 last year. They are highly adjustable, they mount so they fill the gap between the hood and windshield flare (helping wind) and they look great. They mount almost flush with the RX hood and the best thing is they fold in when you put your cover on.

Sorry no picture, traded the 03 for an 05 and have not put the mirrors on as of yet. Yes you can see excellent behind you. They cost about 60.00 for the pair, you will not be disappoited. When you get them unscrew the two bolts that protude from the base that way you can position them exactly where you want them on the sled. As I remember the outside of the mirror housing pushed up against the inside of the winshield flare. If anybody from Yamaha is reading this they should check them out, because I have yet to see a mirror for the RX-1 that doesnt look like an after thought. Be sure you get the mirrors for an XC and the ones that fold in.

Are they like these on the 04 600 Classic? I'm looking for mirrors for my Rage and I like these and they worked well on the Classic last year.
