i was thinkin about pipes but i was told that if u have other than stock pipes in canada they can take the sled and i woodnt want that does any1 know about this? or heard of it? or had it happen?

well, like anything else it depends on the cop and how loud it is....My ram air is abit loud upfront when you crack it..but its not like a muffler loud....cops here havent even noticed it.

as far as mufflers...IMO,a mod to the muffler is NOT what you want to do...you wont yeild much if any power, and some have lost power...and they are annoyingly louder......the stock muffler is loud enough already...someone needs to come with a quieter that is lighter and then we would have something.

as for taking your sled away...LOL..that is not gonna happen...but they will fine you a nice ticket if they feel like it.

machzed did you have to do anything besides cut the air box and add the prefilter? Did you have to do anything with the computer to account for the added air?

Thanks again,

Machzed, thanks for posting that back when you did by the way. I made a carbon copy replica of it and it works great. No time to test it yet to see what the gains are but it looks and sounds awesome. Makes it sound like a gnarly beast with it on. The only thing I did different from Machzed's mod is I cut one big hole rather than the two seperate. I basically eliminated the thin section that he still has in the middle of his. There is still plenty of rigidity like this by the way. But thanks again. It was helpful to see your design. Nice work.

By the way, is anyone running ram air on the trail? Not worried about the noise, because like Machzed said, you can drive it quiet. I am more concerned with exposing the intake to the "elements". As thin as that material is, I have some concern about snow dust getting through. I know its water repelent, but in some garage water tests, it doesn't seem to withstand much moisture before it seeps through. Fortuneatly I still have my original lid on the shelf so my plan right now is to use the ram air to play on the lakes and when we're going out racing. I am not sure that I trust it for long trail rides.
By the way to answer the question from your topic, the best thing to do is to call Ulmer! I have always been a do it your selfer, but I find my self putting a lot of trust in what they say. They are a rare breed in our sport today. They give great service, they know their stuff, and their stuff works. There are a lot of companies out there to choose from, and a lot of them have some stuff that works. But in my opinion, no one out there can top the level of service and product that these guys will give you. I have no affiliation with them so don't take this as a sales pitch. I just love to support good people and we (as yamaha riders) need guys like this around for a long time and the only way to assure that is to support them by buying their products and referring them to others.

Where can I see your mods

1000...
I'd be a little concerned about a larger hole drawing in the prefilter...

I've thought of making more smaller holes in the lid...I think it would have more support and accelerate the airflow more.

When you installed your ram air did you leave the bottom of the air box open with the stock air filter installed???

i did NOT make any other changes then i stated in my post...none.

I have the bottom side opened up a little too. The hole is not to large and does not suck in the prefilter. By doing it like Machzed posted, there is plenty of tension if you do it right and it keeps it nice and snug. No problems yet. ANd yes, I do have the stock filter in place.
