Best Trail Skis - Viper

Since they are now back in production Doo Pilot 6.9's get my vote. Best bang for the buck by far unless SnoX or XC racing. In that case CA.
your running 6.9? what did you have to do for mounting them?

Nothing. They bolt right on a 14 using all original parts so those with Tuners which have different rubber may need to get the 14 Viper rubber. I did not even flip the bushing in ski. Width was right.

Hey DJ,
Mylar & Lorettas is a bit of a snowmobile mecca in the winter. Its a great spot, restaurant has great food and is not deadly expensive. Gas is close and we usually have good snow. This year has proved to be challenging though.

Congrats on the Viper. I technically don't own a viper (yet) so I cant say for sure. But after reading this forum lots, there is a ton of momentum towards Curves. When I drove a Cat 7000 they were crisp handling. That machine had a bit too much steering effort and we worked the centre shock to minimize that.

Also have a buddy with a Cat Lxr (I think) 137 with 600 ctec. He has stock skis with a dooly bar. I can honestly say I have never ridden such a poor handling sled. No bite, and it drifted across every corner to the point it was dangerous. I tried backing the centre shock so the spring was loose and although it improved slightly, still sucked.
Told him to trash the skis, get curves and be prepared to change springs on the centre shock. What wrestling match. My nytro with tuners was crushing him - that shouldn't happen. lol

Let me know what you decide.

I ordered a set of Curve XS skis with 4" leading carbide and 6" shaper bars from St. Onge. Got a little pricey making them the colour I want and adding the loops and leading edge... But what the heck! lol Will put them next weekend and let you know what I think. It will be interesting because all my buddies are riding C&A Razors with 6" shapers and we've never had anything to compare them to. I know they love their razors, but I wanted something that would eliminate the darting a little more than what they were able to.

im another vote for cat skis with snowtrackers....6000kms on my snowtrackers still havent had one ounce of darting and they turn easy and precise...LOVE them

yep me too;)!;)!;)! Love my snowtrackers i'll never own another machine without them! Once set up these things rail hard

For trail I fine the tuner great with Yamaha 6" carbide on inside and stock 2" on out side. 9000 km and no problem

So far i have tried
stock cat ski with stock carbides.
Simmons flexi skis with dual 4" shaper bars
Usi tripple threats with powersteering plates and stage 2 fins & 6" shaper bars
Skidoo pilot skis with dual 6"shaper bars.
Of all of these i found the skidoo pilots worked the best for me, but there is still room for improvment.

This year i will be trying the aggressive snowtrackers on the stock cat skis.I am hoping they are as good as all the hype.

Just following up on my original post.
900-1000 on the snowtrackers. all I can say is wow!
I never would have thought these could do everything they say, but they do.
like has been stated above. I wont be going back to regular carbides.
on a side note. I was able to convince a friend to pull his simmons flexi skis off his nytro and try the snowtrackers with stock Yamaha skis.
his immediate reaction was that he felt like he had power steering.
he now has about 500 on his and also states they are the real deal.

Just purchased a used 2014 viper less than a week ago, it has the 7" slydog powderhounds on it and single carbides, haven't rode it yet as I need to address the steering slop, hope the skis work out?

Any idea if the snow trackers drag or rob some MPH from you??
I have noticed no difference in top end. but I honestly have no idea.
this sled is so condition sensitive its really hard to tell.
on one trail I am 85 mph top speed, 15 minutes later im hitting 100 mph, who the hell really knows. lol

Hi cannondale! Thinking about grabbing some pilot skis for my 14 Viper 137. Would I need any special mounting brackets or do all skis mount the same. Do you just run the stock carbides on these?
Thanks in advance

There are currently tuner skis on my sled and I feel like it just pushes through turns

I run 7” Shaper bars in middle and SnoStuff 4” square outside. Cat rubbers shimmed with piece of rubber fuel hose at back.
