I've always ridden with bibs but now that its time to buy new gear, I'm tempted to try pants. Does the pants give you that much more mobility?
FXR has blizzard pants for $128 and with 8oz of insulation they sound like they are darned warm.

I went from a bib to a pant a couple years ago. I found that in colder weather my stomach area actually got pretty cold. I think for warmer weather or aggressive riding the pant would be fine. For colder weather and less aggressive riding, go with the bib. I got the Klim klimate bibs this year for when I ride with the wife... my poor belly gets cold waiting for her otherwise!

I was thinking a pant or higher waist pants would let my chest and back breath more and not get so sweaty.

I switched over to pants when I went to the Klim stuff I have now. I'll never go pants again, lets in too much cold air! I think it may be part of the reason I get cold in the Klim stuff when it gets into the single digits.
Go bibs.
Go bibs.

Pants seem to be the curent trend, but I'm not sure why. Maybe it's a racer wannabe thing. Anyway, I'll be able to try it both ways this year as soon as we get snow. These are hanging in the closet waiting to be used: Ridge Bib Pants. The bibs can be zipped on or off.
Caution: If you buy these, be aware they run smaller than Yamaha's sizing chart says. Best if you can try them on.

pants
I have worn pants now for the three to four seasons and will not go back to bibs. Yes I move around alot on my sled, but never noticed that my stomach, or gut, has been getting cold. I like the mobility and easy of putting them on and off with out having to remove my coat. Plus very easy to strip down if we are going to be out at a dinner for awhile.
just my 2 cents

Any one used Scott bibs? Their Sierra is goretex, but uninsulated and is only about $150 from some sites.

I have used pants, but I have found they can slide down pretty easily. I prefer bibs. I bought a strap kit to wear with my pants when i wear them.

I ride with someone who has pants and although they look good, up here in Winnipeg, he complains of them being a bit drafty and his waist and tummy gets cold where i never am prone to any of his issues with my bibs.

I think that the big thing to consider is what happens when you get royally stuck in deep snow and have to crawl through the snow. Pants = fill your stomach up with snow. Bib = stay warm and dry.

I always get freezing air blowing up my back when wearing pants!!!!!!

I have fxr jacket and pants ,very warm but you are better off with bib pants if your belly is gettin bigger , much easier to get on and you can use a smaller size

I have bibs and pants from the usual expensive companies. The problem I have with the pants is that the longer suspenders keep falling off my shoulders when I'm moving around on the sled. PITA. I have to stop, open up the jacket, dig around for the lost suspender, get put back together, and then try to catch up to the rest of the group. Dude, why are you so slow? Your suspenders came off? Yea right. You ride like a girl.
Pants with no suspenders = snow up the back and a wet butt.
Bibs. No problems. You can find bibs with thick to no insulation in the front - depending on you belly warming/cooling requirements.

Quite the opposite actually! I've lost 40 lbs since I got the old bibs, and now I swim in them.
Maybe I'll keep them if/when I gain that weight back
