big rear wheels?

Hi guys ive noticed that my rear idle wheels on my 06" apex mtn are cracked and im going to replace them with alloy ones. Now is there any problems going to a 9" wheel? I know you need a relocation axle to set them up.
Will the increase in size change wear patterns to the track or hifax??

Some points I can make as I run 8" rear wheels on my Expert X.

They will not increase wear to your track or hyfax, however, you will loose some adjustment room when adjusting the track. You will also loose a little of the tracks footprint on the ground. HARDLY ANYTHING, BUT SOME NONETHELESS.

I went with plastic wheels because I did not want to spend a small fortune in billets just to nick them up from trail abuse. If you ride the trails, chances are pretty good that you will scratch them from rocks, ice, whatever.

One more point is now the end of your skid will go higher into the tunnel on tail landings.

I put F-cat wheels on my 121 and if you go bigger you will be at the end of your track adjustment. i think these are just under 8".
not sure about your mountain though.

i run 76-77 srx rear wheels as they are just a little larger 7 1/4. they are also found on the et series . i happened to a few old skids around with them on.

You shouldn't just throw on bigger wheels and call it good. You need to run an offset axle if you are going to run larger wheels than stock.

I am running 8" wheels with offset axles on all my sleds. Some say there is less rolling resistence. I really don't see any difference other than looks. I like the looks of the billet wheels.

I just put 8" wheels on my Attak. I also installed an offset axle. Got everything from Rich Motorsports. Takes about 1 to 1.5 hours with suspension still in sled.

As for any benifits?? You are reducing the bend radius of the track. Larger wheel is easier for the track to go around. Does it free up any hp or make the sled faster?? I'll let you know after the Muni ride.

well after getting some tribal 9" billets i got to installing the mountain machine axle and wheels today. Had to drill and grind out more room on the adjusting slot as there was not enough room and the track was too tight once i got all the parts in. Took around 4 hours to work it all out. Now i need to align up the track and im good for a ride. I'll post some pics of the job soon.

For anybody else planning this modification, its really just cosmetic. Though theoretically its more efficient, in practice, it makes no difference. For those just needing to change their wheels, I suggest sticking with 7" wheels as they won't require any additional modifications. Wheels off an 87 or newer Exciter are extremely durable rubberized cast aluminum with replaceable bearings and are 7".

yep thats what i thought too then i saw the dyno results almost 2hp more with the bigger wheels. I couldnt tell the hp gain riding as the apex kicks arse in the power department but they do look better than plastic ones.
One thing i did notice was the sled was more tippy in the powder cause i had mounted the wheels inner rail and got rid of the extra 3rd wheel.
