Hoping someone can help. As most know, these are held on with a single rivet. Mine have broken off over the past few years on a Apex and Vector. I repaired it by drilling a hole and bolting it in place. Now my bolt has worn the hole into an oval and it is getting to close to the end of the rail. I'm wondering if anyone has worked on repairing anything like this. I'm also wondering if the Runner needs to be able to rock back and forth or could I make it stationary at the end of the rail. That may help make the repair possible.
Any thoughts? Glad I have the suspensions out and was checking them or I was headed for bigger problems.
Thanks,
Smurf

Are you talking about the rail tip? That black plastic tip that caps the leading tip of the rails? Most of us have done the same mod with a bolt. But I also filled the cap with silicone to keep it from moving. I think that eliminated any slop and ovaling.
You could fill the hole with JBweld and drill out a new hole I suppose. Post some pics of what you are referring to for sure.

If you are referring to the front of the metal rail and the hole that holds the "rail end cap" on... mine were oval and a fraction from the edge. pulled the skid out, took it to a welder and welded the hole (filled it all in). Then smoothed it out with a dremel and used the (new) cap to mark where the hole needed to be re-drilled.
Yep, you guys got the area right. I actually thought about the weld idea earlier last week. Found a local source and doing the same thing you suggested THKSNOW. It's ready for pick up now. I'll have to get a new couple caps for both the apex and vector. Afraid to redrill and use the current larger holes in the old ones. Another question I have though is that cap is held on by a single rivet. I would guess it must be designed to rock a little and thats why it's mounted the way it is. Does that make sense to anyone? Otherwise, shouldn't I use a small bolt and really tighten it down so it doesn't move to begin with? Or should I silicone the cap and just use a rivet as you suggest biffdotorg? I guess the simple question is does that cap have to rock.
Thanks guys

I see no reason why the end cap would need to rock and believe the best way to install the new one would be to use silicone, get it on, and then use a small bolt and bolt it tight. Starting in 2008 on the FX Nytro models and on the newer Apex/Vector sleds with the redesigned Mono Shock II suspension Yamaha changed the front of the rail and used a rail end cap that uses rivets in 2 locations to prevent the cap from coming loose.

yep...silicone and small stainless steel bolt. This has lasted for 8k miles now on my old 07 Attak
Just completed the repair on my rails on both the vector and apex tonight. I found someone local who closed up all four holes (2 for each sled) for $20. Silicone'd the covers, drilled and bolted (stainless) on the rail and it looks better than new. $25 fixed this issue for both sleds. Thanks to all for the advice.
