He guys,

Wondering if any one has this black soot that runs down the side of the tunnel where the seat and tunnel meet. Attached is a pic (or attempted too attach). It comes back after every time I clean it and was just wondering. For more info my track is about 1.5 inches of a gap to the hyfax. Also i noticed that when cold it has a different tone when I accelerate and let off. it almost sounds like an aexhaust leak but it gets better after it warms up. Any help is appreciated!!!!!

Probably is an exhaust leak.

It looks like what you are seeing is the condesation in the exhaust system with the richness residue in it, dripping from a leak just ahead of the muffler.

Ever have someone or a sled parked behind your 1 litre during warmup in the morning? Makes a real mess of whatever is behind it.

The leak probably seals some, or all the way, when the exhaust system expands as it gets up to temperature.

Check out the exhaust system, my guess is you will find the source of the noise and your dripping black stuff.

thanks for the reply. I have not had any one behind me during warm up but there is more "chunks" of black stuff than normal. Pretty sure it was an exhaust leak but wanted to see if any one else has had this problem.
Dam it, thought I could make it through the season 100% for the first time.......

I think it is caused by the aluminum under your seat, bleeding. If you take your seat off, and use aluminum cleaner, I'd bet it would stop.

Your black residue could also be from belt wear. Mine leaves quite a mess after few hundred miles, only the belt side.

I am 99% sure it is not the belt because it is running from underneth the seat. Also my belt does not seem to wear much as I have taken the sides aprt and cleaned the whole inside throughly. was surprised at how clean it was for the milage. Also the residue is in the same spots on both sides.

I have a day trip today, and plans on saturday sunday, so maybe next week i will take to dealer to inspect while still under warranty.... HEHEHE

With the exhaust angling up the way it does they probably have some drain holes in it right about where you are ssing the residue. If you look on a car muffler they have drain holes for the water. If you didnt the water would build up in the bottom of the muffler and freeze.

made an appointment for monday morning to look at it and get it back asap as I want to ride next week. Nothing is broken so I hope i can have it back if something needs to be ordered. Thanks for your help!!!!
