I need to remove/replace the 2 front inner bogie wheels, from the suspension. Can this be done without removing the suspension? Or would it be easier to just pull the suspension? Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Ooooo, don't know how easy it would be to replace them while on the sled...tension has to be released on the suspension, sled will have to be raised and secured from collapsing.

If memory serves me correctly, the outer idlers must first be removed, then the torsion springs then the torsion spring mounts and then ..... oh what the hey, it is a lot easier (and better) to remove the entire suspension. Especially if you want to upgrade to a better/larger wheel/larger bearing system than the crappy encapsulated Yammy wheels.

There are several posts referring to machining idler wheel mounts, as well as part numbers. Try a search for idler wheels.

Good luck.

its easier to pull suspension.i just went thru this on my custom and since i had it apart i installed some oversize wheels that dont blow apart.you have to cut down alum. holder/spacer 1/8" off the outside bigger part( opposite of where it goes in wheel bearing.

oh and i used my miter saw with a 72 tooth carbide blade.cuts it nice and straight.

heres a pic.you need to do both collars same way but just the end towards set screw.let me know if that makes sense.

What wheels did you use?

It can be done.

I would also recommend removing the skid if you have not had it out before. Give is a good once over. Check the bushings as they tend to wear quickly if you haven't kept the greese to them. Check the bearings in all of the other wheels, pay close attention to the front outer idler wheels. Give all the welds an inspection as there have been issues reported on this site.

Also a good opportunity to change your slides.

Thanks for the replys. I guess I will pull the suspension next weekend. What is so different about these wheels compared to the wheels on any of the older Yamahas, IE: Viper? Is the shaft size different?

Thanks again
