Brake noise chain case noise, chain tension

Been wanting to ask this since last March.

When I rode my Nytro last March my first trip approx 100 miles I noticed a noise when I apply the brakes. Sounds like my 2000 xc Polaris I used to own. It sounds like a resonance noise when the chain is contacting the tensioner as the chain goes slack during braking. I check the chain tension and set it per the owners manual. Turn finger tight and back off 1/2 turn.

Anyone else hear this type of noise.

Thanks

I have never heard of this type of noise being generated by the chain tensioner. If it is the tensioner, I suspect that minor adjustments would result in noise changes. If you make an adjustment but the noise does not change, then it probably is not the tensioner.

If you are convinced that the noise is coming from the chaincase, I would pull the cover and inspect the internals of the chaincase. Look in all the nooks and crannies inside the case. The reason I suggest this is: On an Arctic Cat I had a noise in the chain case. Occasionally, it would not shift from reverse to forward smoothly. Occasionally the noise would be a loud grind. After a year of screwing around I pulled the cover. Arctic Cat lost one of the spacers inside the chain case and left it in there. Essentially, after a huge battle with them, they replaced the case and all internals.

The spacer was the size of a 1/2" flat washer. Only from rubbing it was paper thin. It was banged up a bit. The case had a gouge out of it right next to the seal. The spacer was lodge between the chain and case, when I found it. Needless to say, this was the last Cat that I bought. But, this was only the last straw. I can tell you the horror stories of two cranks, one engine case and two top ends due to piston/ring pin failures.
