Exactly that. I read in the manual to keep below 6000rpm for the first (500?) Miles, and that an oil change should happen early on. What are your thoughts? Am I 'programming' my machine for life with the way I break it in?
I also kept track of fuel consumption today and my jaw dropped. 36L of fuel = 185 km. Now if I'm calculating right that's about 13mpg..! Now, they are fun miles, but 'Bob' is thirstier than I thought. Should I expect that to improve as time goes on (400k on odometer thus far)?

My 12' nytro xtx has about 6000 km on it and the one ride I went for at the end of last season I got 170km on the tank. Some other people say they have gotten only 110 - 140 on a tank, so I don't think yours is too bad haha

Check out Motoman's engine break in procedure website and see what you think? I broke mine in pretty much along his recommendations and mine runs super strong with 0 oil consumption but I know others who have followed the Yamaha break in procedure have had good luck as well.
The one thing I'd do is change the oil before the 500 mile mark for sure. Ideally, I'd change it after the first 50 miles then again at 500 but I am very picky with my maintenance.
