Breather Hose

bigest hose and right on the top of it in the middle.... that is where mine is anyway.

The slit allows the crankcase pressure to escape if the end of the breather hose gets plugged with ice. If the crankcase vent gets plugged, the pressure will push out one of the camshaft seals making a huge oily mess. This is really a cheap and poor way to fix the problem. A better way (which I am working on for my sled) is to run one of the coolant lines from the carb rack through the hose so it will not freeze up.

Very good idea Jim.

Since I run an ECP filter kit, I have wrapped an old "Hot Grip" around my vent hose to eliminate any possibility of a freeze up.

Jackshaft,

I like your idea also. I do not like the idea of having to pull a plug to drain out liquid which has accumulated in the vent hose. This vent should be maintenance free. Who the hell wants to unplug this drain and have the oily mess run all over you hands and potentially expensive sled jacket. When I ride on our multi-day trips through Quebec, I only want to put gas in the sled, give it an overall quick check and check the oil at every gas stop.
