Has anyone else had the cross shaft that holds the adjustment rod on the rear skid break near the welds? This is on a 05 RX1 wth the remote adjust rear. I have not beaten on this sled at all either. Only 2500 miles and just trail ridden and really not beaten on but I started her up this morning and went over it a bit and wow I find that shaft broken. Strange !

I will most likely remove it and wend and brace it slightly instead of buying a new one.

I have not heard of any problems with the rear suspension components breaking. I have heard from many people talk about the W arm cracking in the pro-action suspension. Looking at the welds on many yamaha rear suspension parts, it looks to me like the welding parameters are not always correct, many of the welds i've seen have undercut areas adjacent to the weld indicating the heat was too high and/or the wire feed rate was to slow. Looking at the pic you posted, it looks like it was cracked for awhile since the cracked region is rusty. If you are going to weld it, I recommend making a split collar that bridges the cracked region along with the addition of some gussets. While you have the suspension out, it would be worth beefing up the other side as well along with looking over all the components. Last spring I removed and disassembled the pro-action skid from my 03 RX1, added some bracing the the W arm, grit blasted every component and had them powder coated. Let's see how long the powder coating holds up.

I have a 05 RX1 same problem as yours I removed the skid and had it beefed up and welded. i have read many posts on this sight with the same problems.

This a common problem on the monoshock. Many threads about it. I can see you have the 1st edition of the W-arm.

There was a few "recalls" on the 05 monoshock.
Either you weld it and put in some reinfrocments or you get the W-arm from a -08.

I bought an 05 rx1 from a dealer in 07. that is exactly were mine broken did some searching on this site and found it was common called the dealer who told me to call Yamaha customer service. Because I had bought it from a deal who should have taken care of this before selling the sled Yamaha covered the cost of repair. New W arm, track and labor.

I doubt Yamaha will do anything about this sled as it is a few years old now. I will remove the unit this weekend and pick up some material to gusset it up in good shape. I may add 4 or 5 lbs to it, but it will not break again.

Do the 08 versions fit into the 05 skid? If i chose to purchase a new one..

I would ask your dealer to call Yamaha, anyway. They replaced my W-Arm this year, in my '04. They know there is a problem with them, even if the dealer says "..., that's the first time I saw this one." The posts are scattered all over these forums.

Also, this is an example of very good reason to check the suspension out thoroughly in the summer. Hate to be missing riding time. Of course, I am sure we all check them out in the summer. Right? ;-)

do you put your sled away wet, im bent on always bringin in my sled after riding, so it doesnt rust, but thats just what i think, i think it gits a little more miles outta it
