I have a btx and am not happy with the way it handles boondocking. Way too hard to get on edge and that's with the sway bar disconnected. Spent a few days in Colorado on the btx, a RMK and a Summit. The 2 stroke mountain sleds are in a league of their own vs my btx. The 2 stroke are soooooo much easier to ride off trail. My btx is all be stock except for a Skinz ARC system (which doesn't perform as advertised... Doesn't really couple the skid like I would like) It has a 1.75” track and it really hurts the sled in the deep.
I'm on the verge of ditching this sidewinder and picking up the new turbo summit, but I'm scared it's going to be a maintenance whore. I travel too far to ride to have to deal with break downs.
I wonder if a 3” track and a 36" front will put me in the same league as the 2 strokes??? Does anyone make a kit more narrow than 36"? Advice?

I have a -19 XF9000 which is basicsly the same as a BTX. And no it will never be as nible or smooth to get along with as a 2-stroke. However a few things can be done to make it way better. Lower the bars and change the track, 3" will not fit without extensive modification. I did fit a 64mm Challenger Extreme and it got way better. 36 inch front end would not hurt.

Easy answer is No...ur SW will never be like ur buds 2 strokes.
I consider my MTX fairly bad A$$ as far as mountain Yam-Cats go. If you are looking to tree bang a SW like a 2 stroke not going to happen unless you have mad skills and don't care about beating crap out of ur $20k investment bouncing off tress. SW's are noticeably heavy compared to 2 strokes, and not easily threaded. I ride CO more than anywhere. We...park at 10k feet and go up. Compared to most states, CO has a ton of riding above tree line and that's where ur SW will shine vs 2 stroke. The biggest asset of any SW is its not losing 20-30 hp off the trailer like a non turbo 2 stroke. Im not a small guy 240...Im getting old 51...lol Light weight 2 stroke have been catching my attention more this year than any since I went 4 stroke in 2003... If I did make switch, Id be on a low 5-6 pound boosted Doo. That would cover hp loss from elevation, and my bigger a$$. Id be scared of the already compromised reliability, so I wouldn't go after to much boost. Plus, I would not be banging or threading tight trees. I like my $hit to stay like new condition. I cant stand mud on my UTV...lol
I'd prolly hold on to my SW as a back up, and for days I need to put that power smile on my face.
Now if you wanna out shine ur buds 2strokes in the trees go with a snow bike. Ive never ridden one so this is based off observation, but they pretty popular in CO and kick #*$&@ in the trees.

A 2.25 power claw is surprisingly versatile if you plan crossover use at all. The wide 40" front end is difficult at best to pull over in all but deep powder. The skinny mountain front requires shorter shocks also. The stock 2016 mountain skis can be skinnied up a couple inches over the stock skis, it makes a huge difference if you want to keep the stock front end taking it to 38 or 39".
For light feel replace your center shock spring with a heavier one to balance out the sled. Then you'll be smiling.
