Hey guys, I have been riding for years with a few different helmets. I had a Gmax 54s modular with electric shield and a Scorpion helmet with the snow shield and breath box on it(non modular). I had always wanted to try a BRP modular or the BRP BV2S but just couldn't justify spending the $(especially not knowing if I'd like it). I ended up picking up a BV2S like brand new only worn one time off craigslist the other day for $130! Thought it was worth a shot. So I figured I would tell you all what I thought.

This helmet is very hard to get over your ears just like everyone says but once on fits nicely. Dull all noise a lot more than any other helmet I have also. I think when I talk with the helmet on I'm speaking louder than I need to. Kind of like talking when you have your headphones on! The helmet seems to limit your movement when you try to look far right or far left. I find myself looking behind me when I'm in a turn so that I don't have to turn completely around. Once riding at any speed there is ZERO wind inside the helmet or around your eyes. It's almost strange. One complaint about my others was my eyes watered up because of the wind inside the helmet. It's very quiet when riding too. The light on the back is nice and visible by the riders behind but the guys I was riding with seemed confused cause when you can see the tail light and helmet light they said it almost looks like two sleds with one being farther away. With the breath mask on your face it does seem a bit claustrophobic at first but I got use to it very quickly and after a day you get the feel of how tight it needs to be and its really not bad at all. After I got use to the mask and how it needs to fit your face I had ZERO fogging or icing. I see no need for an electric shield unless maybe it's freezing rain. One nice part about the mask is that once you flip it forward when stopped on the side of he trail you can take it right off if you don't want it hanging in front of you. The orange flip down sunshine I thought was strange the first few times I put it down but again once your eyes adjust the color is good and it also had no fogging when I used it. So my conclusion is if you want an extremely quiet helmet that is comfortable and has no wind or fogging/icing this helmet absolutely rocks! After using it for the first few days there is no way I will ever go back to a different helmet. I highly recommend it!

Great helmets. Just went on a trip, three of us that have bv2s were telling the other 2 guys to get one. One guy said his helmet was great and didn't need one [gmax modular], last day he tried one of the bv2s and was instantly sold.

Helmet Light is great at night. Tail lights get lost in snow dust. You can always see the helmet light.

great buy and well worth trying it for that price.

friend of mine bought one last year and took it back after a weeks riding, hated it. first some of the parts were missing( his and the dealers fault for not checking it out before buying it). the front would freeze up all the time and those tampons on the inside of the breathe box aren't cheap either not to mention very gross. he never could get it to fit right and it would fog up. one night it fogged up so bad he couldn't see hardly anything. all he could make out was the taillight in front of him so that made it a very dangerous ride late at night, especially in the middle of nowhere and you still have an hours riding to get to your destination. it didn't impress me at all but i do understand the concept and it should work. Maybe he just didn't have the right size or he was one of a few people that it just doesn't fit there face. don't know, but i wouldn't pay $400 for i but at that price i also would have tried it

Did your friend have a mustache or a beard? If so this helmet doesn't work for him. You need the mouth piece to make full contact with the skin. Not to tight or loose.

I realize not one helmet is perfect or made for everyone. But the people I talk to who doesn't like this helmet are just hard headed with lots of excuses, crooked nose (mouth breather), claustrophobic, prefer a loose helmet for comfort etc... They don't see fit to make the effort to make it work. But once I convinced them there is no turning back they all love it.

I don't use the pads at all, unlike the BRP Modular 2 the water accumulation can just escape in the bottom. Oh and that was another excuse, I don't want the ice that forms outside when the water drips... Sheesh.

I have a goatee but made sure it was trimmed before we went north and I had zero problem but I would assume your right about a full beard. It took a little while to figure out exactly how tight or loose to put the breath mask but once I figured that out it really doesn't have to be tight at all and it's super easy to throw on now that I know where it's gotta be.

That's what thought might have been the problem, he has a moustache.

Was always a helmet/goggle combo myself.....until I bought one of these used. Haven't looked back since!!
If can add a bit to your review.
Heated visor won't help with freezing rain. Fellow rider has one with heated visor and it does nothing for ice build up on exterior.
The wind in your eyes is the only flaw I have with this helmet. I'm used to it and actually toned it down with a small amount of electrical tape on/around the hinge of the mouthpiece. The flaw is almost always get snow dust inside the visor when busting drifts. It's a catch 22 as I don't run a windshield on my Phazer. So I keep a microfibre cloth in my pocket and a quick wipe and good to go. With the freezing rain it's a quick pull over, let exhaust melt ice, wipe and gone!!
I've used my thumb scraper lots on this helmet and it's still flawless clear. No scratches at all so holding up very very well!! I think new here in Canada there close to $700bucks.

Does anyone else get that slight foggy haze right where you look through while night riding? It's not fogging, almost seems like it's between lenses. Very slight.

I don't. I also have no wind inside the helmet whatsoever. It's still as can be.

No wind here either, there might be an issue if you are getting wind. Make sure your collar is zipped up all the way.

Looked at the date inside. Nov 2006. I'm thinkin perhaps they've updated a few things since. I dunno, but it sure is a good helmet!!

New style

Old style

If you look at the breath mask the old style has 3 lines on the inlet vents and the updated mask has 6 lines. The old helmet also says Bombardier on the chin. I guess the old style breath mask didn't seal right.

That's pretty darn good for a helmet designed over 10 years ago IMHO.
Due for a new breather and may order the new style one if it'll work. Sure it will.
