With the spring compressed, how easy is it to move the c-clip? How do you do it? Can you do it with shock still on the sled?

No, the spring must be removed, the c clip is under the preload adjuster. The spring requires a serious compressor, use extreme care.

Actually it can be repositioned in the sled if you have the right tools.

I'll try to remember to post a picture how to do it when I get home.

Basically I use a bearing spreader (typically used to remove tapered bearings when rebuilding differentials), lightly screwed together behind the 7-position spring adjuster and then I use a pair of strut compressors between the bearing spreader and the spring.

It takes about 15 minutes max this way (including getting the tools out and putting everything away) and it doesn't damage the shock. Also, it is a relatively safe way to do it because the spring can't escape from the sled. Compared to a typical automotive spring, this spring is nothing for the bearing spreader and strut compressors.

Here's a picture showing the bearing spreader in place and the spring compressors installed on each side.

You can also see the c-clip grooves.
