Neen some info on what to go by as valve lift in the 2003 rx1 motor? Is it .050 tho or .020 tho ?Is it ok to set the lobe centers at 114 degrees on both intake and exhaust with low comp pistons and one head gasket?THANKS

Specs should be taken at 1 mm or .0395", I think 1 mm gives you the best reading because it will make the rx1 cams look like a typical v-8 cam taken @ .050. The differance on the lash on most solid cammed v-8 is about 0.010 difference then what the RX-1 is lashed at. Slotting the cam gears to 114 is a good pay off for preformance! It is time well spent and and you can realy feel the differance! If you are running a head spacer you will not have to move the exhaust cam much because the spacer has changed your cam timming already. Make sure to Resinc your carbs after you are done, and wait for snow.

I have 10:1 pistons and 1 stock gasket in my Apex. It works great, better bottom end than I had with the MCX specs and top end didn't change too much. I did my measurements at .040" lift. Here is what it was when stock.

Intake opens @ 14 deg BTDC
Intake closes @ 58 deg ABDC
Exhaust opens @51 deg BBDC
Exhaust closes @ 20 deg ATDC

My math says intake was at 112 deg lobe center
exhaust was 105.5 lobe center

When I was done it came out like this:
Intake opens @ 12 deg BTDC
Intake closes @ 60 deg ABDC
Exhaust opens @59 deg BBDC
Exhaust closes @ 12 deg ATDC

This should have given me 114deg on the intake
and 113.5 on the exhaust.

duration came out to be 252 @.040" lift on the intake
and 251 @.040" on the exhaust.

You can see that the exhaust had to be advanced quite a bit to get it to work. I ended up advancing that sprocket one tooth and then slotting it to get it back to the degree I was shooting for. I used a dremel with pin router bit to do the slot and a round file to clean it all up.
