08 Nytro 500 miles
one of the 2 nytros we run has a burning rubber smell when on the trail 30-50- MPH, at times it will smell and others its fine. I am running scratchers . will sliders smell like that? I have checked and nothing looks wrong with track, sliders, boogies and belt looks clean. People behind me (cats, doos, rmks )can really smell it strong.Has anyone had this happen? Any ideas where to look next? Since I can't smell it while riding maybe the best fix is to back off the throttle and let the rest of them run the front. Thanks Ty

Did you check the entire length of each slide. With mine they wear in one location and 85 % of the slide is fine. Maybe a closer look at the slides are in order, just a thought.
Good luck.

To me, it sounds like it's the belt slipping in the primary that's causing the smell. Check for black marks on the sheaves of both the primary and secondary. Maybe the clutches are out of alignment, or the spring tensions may be out of whack.
Clean up your clutches and wash/scrub the drivebelt. If the belt is shiny, that's a sign of slipping.

I agree, it's probably hifax.
Wondering if part of the hifax problem isn't running the track so tight stock? Inch and a quarter at 20lbs seems awful tight. Too tight = too much friction, friction = heat.
I know my track hasn't stretched much yet. With the back in the stand there's no slop, got to pull pretty hard to get a finger and a half in there. Compared to an easy 2 fingers on the old doo, no pull, just hanging.
Why did they tell me not to run her loose. Different style drivers?

also stop and look at the track where it contacts the snow, when hyfax are hot you can see the snow melting when you stop, you can see a little vapor, it is very easy to see. I have a mtn and 2 times today I smelled them burning so I stopped and looked and each time i could see it very easy

If your not sure, look at the clips on your track..

Check shroud on clutch side. Noticed mine melted a bit because it was rubing on clutch assembly. I must have missed mounting tab and caused problem. Answers always seem so simple once found.
