06 Apex GT, with the electric ohlins. I don't think the electric part does much. I've tried putting it to full hard, and full soft last year and didn't really notice a difference. Is it worth upgrading that shock to a float? Can it be done? Perhaps upgrade the skid to a newer version? Just looking to see if there are any options, or if they are even worth it? Thanks.

Revalve from hygear with dual rate spring kit 600$ Ill let you know how it works when it snows. Suppose for be the cats meow.

As recommended, re-building/re-valving sounds like it might be in order. I too have used Hygear. Great job from them.

You can easily check to see if the shock still has a nitrogen charge by turning the rebound knob. If you feel/hear positive clicks when turned the charge is still present. If it turns freely without noticeable clicks then it needs (at the very least)rebuilding.

I currently ride an SE with the Float Mega and previously had an Attak GT. Each sled I have had the shocks gone through by Hygear. The GT after adding Hygears dual rate springs and custom valving would be my preference. With the Float: it rides fantastic until trail conditions change. Then if I want to change the shock characteristics I have to tip the sled on its side and adjust the air pressure. It's kind of a pain so I much prefer changing the Ohlins on the fly from the bars... When done right the Ohlins shines!

FWIW

Have you looked at the wiring to the shock I had a heck of a time with my 08 attack GT tearing them out in the tunnel. And also the wire rubbing through where it comes out of the engine compartment to the tunnel.

Yup, it's good. Also from my research, if the wiring was bad I wouldn't get the shock adjust on the gauge.

Its been so long i can't remember what showed on the guage. I actually hated the ride of the GT so sold it after I fixed it way too stiff

In stock form I remember my electric shock not making much of a difference, but after a rebuild from Pioneer I noticed that it made a big difference.
To answer your question of replacing it, yes, you can replace it. The adjuster button will just become useless, but it wont affect your sleds electronics at all. Put an XTX skid in mine and had no issues just abandoning the wiring.
I'd read up on the Floats for the rear as well, it sounds like they haven't been getting the highest of approval ratings either. Can't say first hand, but ask around.
