Is 15mm lowering them or raising them? I know the book says 11-15mm. So would 15 be the max? I have had a couple people tell me to lower them a couple mm. Thanks for the info. My next question is....the wires that go to the bottom of each carb off the harness? Do these give constant heat? In other words are they still heating at all with the coolant shut off?

Try a new set of plugs, and check the boots. If the problem only occurs when restarting hot, the coolant shutoff will help. I never turned the carb heat on unless it was very cold. (the carbs are not heated electrically). Also sync the carbs, and check pilot screw adjustment.

I went and got a coolant shut-off valve to stick in. If that doesn't work I will lower the floats, level to the carb body!

The plugs on the bottom are electric heaters but they only come on when you first start it up. Technically you will be lowering your floats (so there is less gas in the bowls) but when the carbs are upside down you are increasing the measurement up to 15mm. Kind of confusing eh? It is really easy when you got em off though.
