Carb float bowl and main jet. The main jet in the newer versions (04-05) is a little longer and has an o-ring on the bottom to fit into the bowl.
The purpose of this is to ensure that there is always fuel at the main jet even when the sled is standing at weird angles.
This update is more or less useless to a flatland sled -- only mountain sleds typically run under conditions where it helps, however the update was done across the board as a result of tooling. It is simpler if you just make them all the same.
If you have a short track, don't worry about it. Only consider it if you notice it cutting out when climbing hills or otherwise operating at extreme angles.

I'd have to disagree with you about it only being usefull for the mountain guys, I use mine on the trails and it cuts out on bumps, jumps, and sometimes on hard acceleration, I also contacted Yamaha about the update and they said I was SOL and to buy a used set from a newer sled

I also had the cutting out problem when going over rough terrain.Got my updated bowls back in 03 no problems since. It's not just for mountain guys.

Your float height is simply wrong if this is happening to you.

I clean my carbs before every winter and set everything to spec, I've also played with different float heights because I thought I could fix it and nothing worked, updated bowls or the longer jets by thunder products is the only fix I know of

YUP can be a problem for flatlanders also
I used JumboJets instead of the new float bowls. took care of my RX. Granted I do find myself going up steep inclines on a fairly regular basis.

Float hieght adjustment didn't help on mine either. It was definately the float bowls/main jet holder that did the trick.Several seasons later and mine hasn't cut out once.
