I've always ran 6" shaper on pilot with very good results. I would have gotten some more mileage out of them but they kinda came apart on me. I think they gave all they could.....I'm just saying......it appears that they might need to be shimmed.

144 1.5 studs on a 137". What's everyone else running?

I stopped running Shapers several yrs ago. Basically when their pricing got stupid.

I have always run BRP 1/2 round bar carbides on all pilots on Cat,Doos and now SW.

The Shaper for some reason does not last very long, they seem to loose carbide faster too.(piece falls out)

With this winder chassie, the steering effort is far far lighter then any doo I owned, so I dont even bother with the BRP 5" which I actually really love, and will outlast a shaper 6 by far.

I now run the biggest BRP carbide called the executive. BRP carbides are ALL made by woodys, and so you can also buy a executive in Woodys packaging, but it will typically cost more I find. Most dealers will give you some % off too, or grab them from leaders on ebay with no tax/free ship most the time.

IMPORTANT:
With the SOFT rubbers on the winder, a 1/4"(MIN) to 3/8" shim is needed under the back of the rubber. I believe for long term as the rubber sacks in, the 3/8" will work best. Albeit abit thick initially(especially noticed when reversing on pavement)

Specific pics on the pilot 6.9 thread page one.

Dan,
I didn't want to come on here and badmouth shaper bars. running shapers since 2009. But @)#(_+&)#/}€{©✓®{¢....They wear for #*$&@. Lol! And now cause of it, I blew a $125 ski as well. $)#+&)@/'!!!!! My fault for not checking them. And I have ridden some questionable snow conditions from time to time. My bad!

I honestly attribute it to either....
A. Soft steel
B. The shaper is very thin in the middle. Doesn't hold it's measurable value in center.
Or combo of both.

And lastly......yes. the front goes first then they fall off like ducks in a row. Again......Shim the skis!!!! I found a nice little piece of composite material to take up the slack.

I will grab a set of those executive bars!

Thanks, D!

Always had good luck with the shapers, and ran executives for years. I run 7.5 shapers on the 5.7s because I think they turn better than executives because of the side channel, but that's just me.

I've run the 6" on 2strokes and honestly wondered if the heavier 4stroke combined with a 7.5 would make things difficult? IDK.

At the end of the day, the difference in weight has to be 200lbs. +/- not arguing! And most of that right over the nose.

You are correct about the nose weight, that's why I tightened my Center shock to move some of that weight reward.

Agree if you run shaper be sure to run 7.5s

But I still feel they lose their carbide easier/sooner then a woodys made round bar.

I would not be as biased if the prices were closer, but ive seen times they are double!

With mine shimmed now, the weight is all biased rearward and this helps alot not to chip off/lose the front pieces of carbide. With a proper ski angle(shim) the carbide should always wear evenly or abit to rear. So even a cheap crummy carbide will last long as its all taking the weight, not just the front pieces.

Agree, that is what I have now from my 2013 cat procross, when dan turned me onto the 5.7 pilots,i resharpen mine with a green wheel, have one at camp and one at home for touch up,still with 4000 plus miles on these shapers and still going strong.

I ran shapers back on apex(7.5s) with pilots, from 06 thru 13....loved them.

I tried them once a few yrs later and they were just very short lived. I felt they were not made as well. And then went to BRP carbides which are same as woodys, and loved them for longevity and price.

Hey Joe you know you are supposed to ride these things on snow right? Here are my shaper bars with 1500 miles on them and my ski's are NOT shimmed.

Joe wait til you see mine....I like mine shimmed much more, mine wear bigtime behind spindle, but man they wont dart!

It looks to me like the shaper would do well heavily shimmed, as they have alot carbide out back.

My old girls finally wearing thru in back, so I am finally gonna stick the new executives on.

;)

Snow, what's that? Looks good. I've never shimmed anything in my life. With that said, I don't think an 1/8" shim would hurt?
Going to set my sled down on these new skis and see what that looks like and go from there.
Been following you, glad to see no worries on your new sidewinder!

Joe so far I'm really happy with my Winder. The ride and handling are awesome and the power is unreal. I rode my 16 1200 I sold to my Bro yesterday and two things really stood out. First the seating position on the Winder is higher with less knee bend yet it doesn't ride like it's top heavy. Even though the Doo feels lower the Winder handles and steers much better. I'm very pleased with my choice of sled at this time.

So true....I got out with the gang this weekend, and sat on XS doo, my gosh that felt OLD. Very low, and those fat side panels sticking out, no way to wrap knee around hard cornering.....I so much love my MT seat height, and softness on my winder. Ergos just perfect.

I will add here, the new 850 xrs is quite stunning in everything I threw at it on trail. No lake running though, and the legs on long trail stretch just are not there.....the winder just is getting started when the 850 is petering off...
