I just noticed that my carbides are worn out and need to be replaced, The last two sets ahve both worn out mainly towards the front of the ski and not where the actual carbide part is. Is it the way I have got my Rx-1 set up or what? Thanks

Add some shims to the back of your ski mounts. Check out the TY Technical Section for Sled tech centre and Ski & front guidlines.

Bet you it was turning hard too, eh? I found that the OEM skis on mine, after only one year, had lost their normal curve. When I put a set of doolies, the plate they are welded to put the curve back in the skis. The doolies not only wear on the carbides, but the sled also turns 10 times easier, even on concrete. When I say the wear occurs near the carbides you really have to look to find any wear. They have already lasted at least three times as long as the woody’s singles I ran before them, with a lot more wear left in them.

I'm not sure which carbides I need for my 03 rx-1. It has 96 studs in the track and I'm going with the dual carbides. The guy at royal said I just need the 4" carbides. Is this ok? I don't ride real agressive.

I have 4" on mine. But, I have an Ice Ripper. I figure my 256 studs are about the same as 96 real studs. But, .... for a test, I am going with 6", if they ever wearout.

I am going to put them on for this weekend and see how they work. I just wanted to know before I got them out of the package and had to return them.

Bergstroms and shims- the handling will blow your mind. Tried them all, duelies-shapers but bergstroms imo are the best handling and longest lasting.

In regards to the problem I am having with my 03 RX-1, a friend of mine asked if I had the rubber piece in backwards that goes in the ski...Is this possible and if so would it cause this type of wear on my carbide? I did have the skis off last year and I might have put them in wrong...

No the rubber is correct, it is just the design. I ran them all, the best I ran with my stock skis were Bergstrom triples, ski savers, and shims. Ive used this same set up on many different skis; C & A, Simmons, Pilots, & Slydogs. My favorite combination is the slydogs and bergstroms. My 2nd favorite was the Simmons & Bergstrom. My least favorite was just stock and then the woody's on stock skis. The pilots rock in the rough and SUCK on the groomed, no bite. Bergstrom triple points IMHO are the best bars out there. Woody's are very popular, thus a lot tracks to dart in or follow. They fill up between bars, and the studs break easy, too easy.

Approximately how thick should the shims be?? And what should I use? Thanks.

Sorry for the delay in responding Midway. I use 1/4" X 1" aluminum stock. I purchase it at Lowes. I think it comes in 2' lengths. You only need a piece long enough to go on the top of the back of the rubber wedge. I drill 2 holes, just enough for a number 10x1" brass wood screw, then I use a 3/8" drill to counter sink. I place on top of the rubber and just screw them in by hand. This is all it takes. Just take a look at the runners with the sled sitting on the garage floor, the naturally tilt forward, then put in the shims and take a look, the wear bars will be flat or even a little to the rear. Most darting gone. Now if you want to make it rail, get rid of the preload on the shock springs. Buy I set of Bergstrom triple point carbides, 6" with ski savers. These carbides will last at least 2 seasons, they bite like a shark on the twisties, and you can steer on cement. The only thing that will make it better is a pair of Slydog skis. IMHO
