Carlisle Belt Dimensions XS804 & XS805 for Apex/Attacks

Thanks Allen for posting that curve. There is your answer Dan. It confirms what I thought from just the bit of field testing I did with that belt. I appears as though it will put more power down even in the top end for you Dan. For the guys that are running 11,000 RPM it will bring those R's down into the heart of the HP curve, around 10,600-10,700 or so from what I have experienced. It seems when they get that high into the rev range just before hitting the rev limiter that the timing retard pulls power away. I have two of the XS805's that have slightly different lengths to them which is normal. Just keep an eye on the deflection and shim the driven width accordingly.

I am running a little bit different setup than some of you guys. I run a stock primary, super torquer Drag & Fly weight kit,ST HCX secondary, and am running an XS811 or XS801 belt. I set my belt to run approx. 3/16" out of sec.,and set deflection at normal setting. I am getting very good results with this setup. If you are having problems trying to check proper belt length, take the springs out of both clutches, and reinstall on sled. You can then shift the clutches manually and check to see if belt is properly bottoming out in sec. and riding at proper height on primary. Try several belts and once you find one that works best, measure that belt . But remember O.S. circumference varies from brand to brand, because of thickness of top cogs, so O.S. cir. will vary and actual belt lenght will be different. Good luck.

belt

I have the carlisle belt, but it didn't last as long as the 8dn belt. wore the sides of fairly quickly and lost speed.
As always Mike, Dan, Allen and the rest. Thanks a million! Gee you guys spend alot of time wrenching, thought I was bad.LOL

Well I put about 380 miles on this weekend with the 805. My RPM's came up from 10,700 to anywhere from 10,900-11,100 depending on what surface we were on. Sled pulls like a freight train but I think once I hit 11,000 theres not anything to gain. Looks like I might need to put some weight on or try something different.

We better wait and see what happens with these belts. I'm seeing a huge amount of wear here in just 60 miles of use. I now have pulled the deflection bolts out from the driven as it has sunk in the driven alot! I don't know if they are going to last any time at all yet. The r's come down 300-400 and it bites the clutches real well, but something is going on with the incredible wear. I won't know until I put some real miles on. That could be a while without snow here.

Knapp Is there any reason I am seeing a increse in RPM's with just changing from a 8dn to the 805? I changed my gearing this year to 22/40 and my rpms went from 10800 with the 8dn up to around 11000 with the 805 belt. Any thoughts

Jeff

Yes, gearing down will increase the RPM's. Also this cold weather we had this weekend will increase the RPM. Engine is making good power in this cold weather.

You'll have to change the height more than likely. The Carlisle belts are not too consistent when it comes to tolerance. We have had a great deal of performance increases with the new Yamaha 8DN-01 belt, designed to replace the 00 belt. Put them on three sleds so far, two sleds picked up 4 MPH and one picked up 2 MPH, and just like the 00 belt they don't wear out or blow. Great belt from Yamaha again! The Carlisle's have become a fixture on the bench, just wasted money for now.
