I was doing my 1st oil change this weekend. While going over the whole sled I came up with 2 questions. My secondary clutch (the larger set of sheaves) has a little bit of play in it. It slides about 1/16" back and forth on the shaft. Is this okay?? My other sled is tight. My second question is> where is the vbelt supposed sit between the secondary sheaves. On my older skidoos the top of the belt was supposed to sit FLUSH with the top of the sheaves.... on My Apex the belt is sitting approx 1/8" to 3/16" lower in the sheaves. The top speed on my GT is only about 115 mph on the speedo.... I hear of other guys seeing 125-128... could this be my problem?? :rocks:

Play is normal, its call float. 1/16" is ok !

Yamaha clutch is a limiting clutch which means
it will only open so far ( to its limit ) which keeps
you from reaching more top end !

My GT also see's 115 on dream meter ! No work
done to it yet ! Sleds going 125 to 128 either
have work done on them ( most likely change to
gearing and clutching ) or speedo's that are way off.

Yours is normal !

Sorry for not reading the recent previous posting "Belt Deflection" this helps answer some of my questions. Can anyone tell me if there are any spacers from stock..... If not are "spacers" just flat washers??

my secondary moves about 4-5 inches back and forth,i think chain is loose

i added 1 washer to each bolt to bring my belt up to top of clutch.
115 is ok if your in snow, but i think you should be getting more.
my rtx gets 131-133 consistantly on ice with my 140lb son on it. 133 is 118 on radar.

Hey RED800.... tighted the chain up between your ears. ;)!
Do not tighten up the chain, this play is normal, the end play mentioned earlier was just that end play,of the secondary moves in and out on the jackshaft, called float, some man.. use it some dont, but when you rotate the clutch as if the track was turning than stop and reverse direction you have chain play, because of the reverse this play is needed.
