Has anyone tried it in the viper? I have a few jugs in the shop and was thinking of trying it out.

I've been using Castrol Edge 0-30 in my sleds for many years without any issues. I don't see why 0-40 wouldn't be just as good.Has anyone tried it in the viper? I have a few jugs in the shop and was thinking of trying it out.

Any 0-30 or 0-40 will work just fine. Brand doesn't matter so much.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn’t sure if there was anything added to the yammalude that our motors require. I have been using the castrol 10w40 motorcycle oil in my atv and side by side for years with no issues.

Been using mobil1 5 20 (ford likes it) or 0 40 full synthetic since 2002/3 in the rx1's. Zero issues. If it's good enough for supercharged mustangs, vettes, Ferrari's and Lamborghinis it's good enough for these engines. imo. Once in a while the 0w-40 can be found on walmart.com for 22 bucks for a 5 quart jug!
Years ago only ran Castrol GTX in my old 69 gto judge... blew it up, but not because of oil. Seems 18 yr old me didn't quite understand why my 2 bolt main 400 cid ram air didn't like 7000 rpm. Dam kids!

This statement has some truth according to the mechanics at my dealer. They say that Yamalube synthetic's have some added properties that allows the oil to get into internal crank bearings. Me, I have know clue either way. This just came up when my buddies chain case on his 18 SW needed rebuilt. We took with us the oil and filter we use which is Mobile 1 full synthetic and K&N filter. We asked them to use it and they said the filter was fine to use but not the oil. Makes me wonder a little that there may be some truth to what he is saying, because it's warranty work and no charge for the oil change. The first oil change was done with Mobile 1 full synthetic so they had no problem using Yamalube full synthetic as well. Thanks for the replies. I brought my sw back to Excell for the first service to check the sled too. Chain case and engine oil, and I mentioned I run Mobil 1 he asked if I brought it so he could use it, but I forgot it...lol. It's fine. Exceeds all car man. warrantys, and some of those cars might have to start in cold weather too! And what oil company makes Yamalube anyway....I run Mobil 1 in everything even a lawn mower, and then use the old oil as my chainsaw bar lube...amazing how little wear (the burr that appears) over the years on the bars compared to regular bar oil. We have a sawmill and burn firewood so they get used. A lot. This statement has some truth according to the mechanics at my dealer. And....I only use Bombardier injection oil at 40:1 mix in them. For the'aroma' of snowmobiling!

the 0-40 castrol is required for my VW. I do notice when I pour it that it seems thicker/heavier than the 0-30 I use in other stuff . not sure if that might make starting a bit harder even though they both start with # "0".

An old friend was a research scientist for Castrol in New Jersey and explained multi weight oils use polymers to expand and make it flow slower, starting with say a 0 weight oil for example and adding them to make 0-30, 0-40, etc. He said the pure oils are single weights, 10 w, 50w, etc....I ran straight 50w racing oil in my gto. In summer. lol. And ran the 5 w 20 (mobil1) in my cars and sleds for years. Just couldn't pass up the 0-40 mobil1 synthetic for 22 bucks for 5 quarts. Knowing it has more polymers to achieve the wider temp viscosity requirements. He also said remember, polymers are not oil. Just thickening agents.the 0-40 castrol is required for my VW. I do notice when I pour it that it seems thicker/heavier than the 0-30 I use in other stuff . not sure if that might make starting a bit harder even though they both start with # "0".

For all we know castrol makes yamalude, and the additives are in all their oil lol.

No such thing as bad or cheap oil anymore, as long as it's the correct weight for your application, one the other hand if you use yamalube and keep your receipts, Yamaha will warranty your motor up to 100k miles if you you occur an oil related engine failure.

In any engine? Or just Yamaha? No such thing as bad or cheap oil anymore, as long as it's the correct weight for your application, one the other hand if you use yamalube and keep your receipts, Yamaha will warranty you motor up to 100k miles if you you occur an oil related engine failure.
I like LexusLube...lol!!
Honestly, I think the last thing to worry about on the 4 stroke sleds is an oil related failure.
Which may be hard to prove.
