Chain case fluid

Since I had my first sled back in 2001 I’ve always used Amsoil 90w gear oil without any problems, I’ve done probably 100 000 km’s since than and if I add all my buddies km’s using the same oil it’s close to half a million km’s without a chain case related failure.

I changed it at the beginning of every season when I do my oil and it always comes out clean.

You will get as many opinions on this topic as there are people on this site. As long as there is the proper amount of oil in there, and the viscosity isn't too heavy, pretty much anything will work as long as you change it every year or so. Most times, all company's are just trying to sell their product, and if you don't use it, your sled is going to blow up, bs. The expensive products will all work, but much cheaper products are out there which are just as good for this application.

Yamalube chain case fluid.

I like This stuff. You get 3 drain and fills out of one bottle so the price is not that bad!

Which type of oil is better, regular or synthetic.

I hope thrasher doesn't mind me using his words to answer your last question, I think it's the perfect reply again. But if there is any question on what oil to use, stick with the oil that was made for the sled if it's available, you can't go wrong, Yamalube Snowmobile Chain Case Lube GL-3.

My Yamaha dealer does only does boats and snowmobiles.
When they changed my chain case fluid for maintenance, the owner said we highly recommend using there marine based fluid and just said trust me.
Never new what specific fluid but with that said never had a chain case issue in 8000 miles other than the reverse actuator itself failing.
They only said the snow specific fluid was sub par.

i use royal purple 85w140 in all my chaincases. no problems other than a failed bearing cage on a sled that the drive axle took a shot on a rock years before that we found when replacing the track.

Yea the royal purple products are quality fluids.

Motomaster 75W90 full synthetic GL-5 spec is what I'm using. I also use it for the rear diff's and front hubs of my Semi.
