I was checking over my daughters 05 RX1 getting it ready for the trail. When I checked the chain tension, it was way loose. I had to tighten it 4-5 turns.

There had been a bearing failure in the chain case 3 years ago and a reputable Yamaha shop made the repair.

She is a petite girl and doesn't ride very hard, I was surprised to see the chain stretch. Is this something I should be concerned about? Also, I brought it to a "snug" level, finger tight...should I have backed it off 1/2 a turn?

No way the chain stretched that much. Sounds like it was never tightened properly. Was the jam nut tight? If she never rode it really hard, you may have gotten away ok. Have you put it on a stand and run it a little bit?

Turn the adjuster bolt until it stops (finger tight), then back it out 1/4 turn. If it's been 3 yrs, you need to change the chaincase oil.
