Went for a ride yesterday and on way back noticed what sounded like a ratcheting track. Didn't burp throttle too hard but it did happen 3 times. So I eased into throttle for last 10 to 15 miles. Got it into garage to tighten track and noticed it was good so went right to chain tensioner and it had backed out. I replaced track earlier in season and must not have tightened locking bolt properly. I normally check chain tension frequently but was in a hurry and did not (completely my fault)
Question is, should I open up cover to see if I did any damage or just re-tighten and move on? At time of track change i did put all new bearings, seals and chain in.
Any advice is appreciated.

Open it up and inspect. Gears and chain should be fine but flush the case out and add new fluid as they may be some filings hanging around.

I have almost 11,000 on my 06' Attak...never pulled the chain cover off but have changed the oil and set the tensioner annually. (just read I've not been doing it correctly without reversing the secondary, but now I know).Open it up and inspect. Gears and chain should be fine but flush the case out and add new fluid as they may be some filings hanging around.
Is there enough justification to pull and inspect or wait until I hear or feel a problem?

no cause for alarm with 11000 on her chain will most likely last for many more miles. never a bad idea to get a look at it but the chain in thease is pretty strong not many failures out there if its not turbo or supercharged.

I did the same thing last year. I always put a small earth magnet on the drain bolt and when I changed the chaincase oil this spring, noticed very little metal filings, so I don't believe you need to inspect it again.
The only time I crack open the chaincase is to change the track. Just tighten it up, change the chaincase fluid and go.

had this happen to me today 30km into the bush... Wasn't till after I had a rescue trailer on the way that I thought of the tensioner bolt and sure enough the sled started to move again. Trailered it back to home base and took the case right apart and refilled fluid. What a horrible sound though, hope it never happens again!
