Just reading the thread on Joel's sleds tensioner bolt being loose on his chain case. What is the required torque on the tensioner bolt? Last time I did it I think I tightened as much as my fingers could and backed out 1/4 turn and then set the lock nut. Is this correct? On my first ride this weekend I noticed some racheting that I thought was from the track but now I am nervous about this chain being loose. I am going to check everything over tonight.

Also, where is a good place to buy a service manual for my 07 Attak? Should I just go to the dealer?

You did everything right as far as tightening the chain. I don't own an Attack, but I believe you have to keep them within Yamaha's spec or the track will ractchet. For the manuel, search Ebay.

You da man! Thanks. I'm going to e-bay right now.

the chain is to be finger tight and back off a quarter turn. the track suppose to be w/ 22 lbs. pulling down on it 1" between the hyfax and track. now alot of people(including me) are running it looser because its too tight and does wear the hyfax and add alot of friction. some running up to 1 1/4" off track off hyfax just by lifting the sled. check the track tention first to be sure its not too loose as they do loosen up when there breaking in.

The racheting is wierd. Only happens when going slow and hitting bumps (rough trails). No ratcheting under heavy accel???

That seems pretty loose for me. I like to run my track tight. But I have only had fully clipped tracks. I found I could run faster the tighter I went.
I will tighten until it stops ratcheting. Thanks.

It should be no more than 1 - 1/4" of play @20-22lbs. I can get away with that on a 121" sled, since mine is an Apex. I run mine at 1 3/4" @20-22lbs and I get good top end from it. Also, the mono skid makes alot clanging noise over small bumps. It's very noisy suspension.

Theres a big diff between the track ratcheting and the chain. Chain sounds like you lost a bearing. did that last year thought the weekend was over. Opened the hood saw the adjuster was backed out finger tight set the locknut vrooom all weekend.

Yeah, sounds like he talking about the normal noise of the transfer rod, but it doesn't really sound like a track ratcheting. Can't see it being a ratcheting issue if your not on the throttle...

This is my first 4 stroke so I am still getting used to the difference or lack of noise. I rode a ZR 700 with twin Jaws pipes with twin stingers so all I could hear was that.

I will make sure everything is in spec and get used to the new sounds.

Get yourself a nice pipe Hauck, Excell or gut the existing then all those ghosts will go away. Just check your sled for missing parts when you get where you are going. Thats what I do.

Huh did you say something? sorry its the ringing in my ears.

LOL!

No mods for this guy! I came off a modded sled last year and I blew it up 4 times in 1 season. It was set up properly just had bad luck. Got to the point where every ride we went on i was just waiting to blow up and ruin everyones day. I plan on keeping this baby for a while so I'm staying stock. So far this 4 stroke is really showing me who is boss! I love this thing! Just want to make sure all is well and give her the proper maintenance. I can't wait to get back out there.

Anyone know how to cancel Christmas so I can ride more the next couple weeks?

2 stroke suck, but you can't beat a XCR 800 on the water.

See thats what 1 or maybe 2 too many slapshots to the head will do for you.

I did that once on my V-max, the ice was not so seamless at the end of the open water. cost me 2 radius rods, 1 ski, 1 trailing arm oh and a brand new set of fruit of the looms.

I'll do a search for a religion with no holidays HMMM is there maybe a snow worship cult with it's origins say in Revelstoke??????? :drink:

You might be right now that I think about it. It is more of a clunk and only makes the noise once when I hit a bump. I just thought the suspension was collapsing and allowing the track to loosen. I'll get used to it! Thanks again.
