OK, I pulled the chaincase off my Yamaha RX-1 and I wasn't really looking to see how the reverse shift forks were positioned. Can anyone tell me if they should be all the way up or down when sliding the chaincase cover back into place? I am thinking that since all the reverse shift linkage is disconnected I should be able to manually position the arms. However, I have never removed the cover before on any Yamaha sled and would like to be sure. Any assistance would be appreciated. Of course I don't have the shop manual either Thanks, Chuck

Neither. You need to make the fork line up with the groove in the reverse gear.

OK, so what is the trick ?
How do you get the fork lined up in the groove as you slide the chaincase cover on? Have a wire with a hook on it to lower the fork into the groove as someone else pushes the cover on? Is there an online shop manual that shows pictures? It was easy to take off, so I'm hoping it won't be that hard to put back on.

Well, unless something is broken, the linkage can control the fork from OUTSIDE the case. Just work the arm that the linkage connects to to direct the fork into the groove as you're sliding the cover back on.
Regarding pictures, go through the FAQ's - there's a link there about "installing reverse" that has pictures.

Awesome! I found the reverse installation instructions. I will work the forks back into the groove while sliding the cover on. I will know if it didn't work right when I try to kick it into reverse Thanks for the help! This website is such a great resource
