My brothers 06 Nytro has a little dent on the bottom of the oil filter(due to a milk crate under the sled for a month last summer when i had the floats rebuilt). There was no leaking because he put 600mlies on the sled last winter,so my question is can the oil filter be changed without draining all the oil(oil was changed this past spring)or is it safer to remove all the oil in a clean container?Would really like to replace this filter so we won,t have to worry about it leaking.

always change the oil atleast every season, and the filter also

The filters are good for 12k miles, no need to change. But yes, you can change them without changing the oil.

How much oil will fall out when i remove the filter? Will it only drain the base of the motor completely or will it empty out my oil tank?Is there a chance that an air pocket will get trapped in the motor and cause damage?
I would have the new filter ready to spin on,but that would be a mess til you spin the new on tight. Or let the motor drain, you will probably lose a quart tops, but I would add the new quart before recycling the run out., <$10.00 =piece of mind.
let us know how it goes.
