Changing an 05 RX-1 jackshaft Bearing. [clutch side]

Hey Matt....did I read somewhere that your lower bearing inside your chaincase went out on you during a ride?

That happened to me on my last ride out....what a PITA...I wonder how common that is? I don't have alot of miles but my dealer (who is VERY good) said that is not a common problem to have.

Yep, that is exactly what happened John. Really surprised me because I service it each fall after the jackshaft problems that occured on the 03 models. It was chewed up pretty good. Didn't take long to fix and I was only about 500 meters from the cabin when it occured.

Mine was shot as well but luckily I heard and felt it go at about 60MPH and stopped immediately. I was stranded and had to call a tow-truck. Not much you can do because towing puts added stress on the bearing as well. Luckily I was near an old logging road and managed to get the truck to me.

It ended up costing me $600 (CDN) but I had the dealer replace ALL 5 bearings related to the drivetrain just to be safe. It really only added the cost of the bearings as the labor was pretty much the same. So I should be good to go for many more miles but I found it strange that I have read about these failing on 2005's only.

I LOVE MY 2005 RX1. I always beat my buddy's Vector on gas and I think the suspension is awesome. It really is a great sled and I don't miss not riding an 06. The bearing issue was really the only issue except for a few idler wheels. I really hope the suspension (with all 2006 updates) holds up. :D

You can carry a spare bearing and change it in the field. It only takes 10 minutes and a extra torx bit/driver in the bag. On my sled and the way I drive, they last just about 3K miles. If you are close to that, change it before you go Nord!

Wrong bearing Len....the one you are talking about is the one on the clutch side and yes, it's easy to change. I just re-grease that one and lasts forever.

The one that went out on me is the lower driveaxle bearing in the CHAINCASE....major work changing it....no trail side work there.
