Have a 04 660 Grizzly and want to change the front diffrential oil.....maunal says nothing about the front diffrential oil change from what I see......it tals about the gear assembly oil and something about the back gear assembly( do not have manual in front of me, doing it by memory)...says the one is about 33 ml and the other is 31 ml as in how much it holds, is this true?? Thanks Dicema

Thanks for the reply.....in the maunal it lists 2 differentials I think, which one is the front one?...do I need to tip the bike at all to drain it all out or does it drain fine onits own?..Thanks again Diceman

I would say the final drive is the rear and the differential is the front. I don't think yo need to tip the bike, just pull the plug and let it drain.

I wish they'd put tell you in oz too. I'm metrically challenged.

lolllll..hey, does oil have a shelf life??..meaning if I have 1/2 a litre of gear oil left unused, will it be good say in 5 years still?..Diceman

well of course I have a problem..lol....when you are looking from the front of your bike is the drain plug on the right or left side of the skid plate?...I have a yamaha aluminum skid plate with 3 holes on the left side of it...the middle hole is the biggest so I fiquried that is the drain plug...when I looked though there is no drain bolt, just a round fitting or something,....no place to even turn it, no alan key place, etc.....only had the bike 2 years so this is the first time I am changing the front oil....please don't tell me the skid plate is covering the drain whole.....the skid plate is on by rivots it looks like...Am I missing something??Diceman

Should be on the left side as you are standing in front of the bike looking at the front.

well the holes are on the left side and the middle hole is way bigger..........but there is not a bolt to drain it.......I can see a round end of something but no way anything can turn it.......I am extremely puzzled.......

Maybe the skid plate is covering it up. I don't have those skids so I don't know. Pull it off and look.

Looks like the skid is really rivoted on but taking it off might be the only solution...one question though, is the drain plug for the front the same type as the drain plug for the engine oil?...Thanks Again Diceman

no it is not. the diff drains on mine take a hex bit/allen key to remove. on mine the skidplate for the front does not have to be removed to change the oil. the rear diff one i have to remove the skid plate.

clean off the round item you describe above. you might find the hex in there for the allen key.
