Drop the skid. Inspect, grease and repair if necessary.

I've dropped out my MTX 153 by myself many times. The trick is to install the front axle first and use a ratchet strap from the front arm lower cross shaft to the upper rear arm shaft. When you install the suspension, you will realize the rear holes don't line up and you have to preload the rear suspension, thus the ratchet strap, and after a couple of cranks, it lines up perfectly.

15 minutes max, and if you want to replace the hyfax you can do it on the bench rather than on the sled....but don't get me wrong...the reverse system works great too.

Not to hijack the thread, does anyone have an easy way to remove hyfax from your track clips...Heat gun works, but slow...and I seem to be scratching the clips a bit and don't want to go down that rat hole.

Hi all, I have a hyfax related questions as well. I am putting OFTs 136" rail extensions on my standard nytro. Anybody have a good place to look for slides to use on this? Should I just buy XTX OEM slides? Any other suggestions, aftermarket recommendations?

You can buy the XTX ones or Attak sliders work as well. I have used both.

I just have the local small engine shop order my hyfax out of the parts unlimited catalog, and it always came a few inches longer than needed for when I had my 136 nytro.

I recommend getting a set of hyfax you know will be too long, then cut them down before install. Then you know you will have the right size every time. Especially with Yamaha 144" skids, the rails are not always the sane length from model to different model. Ive come up an inch or two short with hyfax before twice now and then you have to remove them again. Just some advice as the potentialis out there.

I'm changing my hyfax on my 2011 nytro in the past I just pull the skid out.
I have seen a lot of post on changing the hyfax in reverse. My questions is do you have to cut the track to change hyfax using the reverse method .

I think most tracks out there will require you to make a couple of holes larger to fit the hyfax out. I had to make them larger on mine.

I did the hyfax on my 09' and did not have to cut the track. The windows in the track were find. Now of course i have the SBE wheel kit so i do not have to worry about that as much anymore! Good luck!

I just un-screwed the tip screw, tapped down th hyfax's with a chisel and hammer out of the windows by 2", fired her up put in reverse and "VOILA" 2 peeled hyfax just laying there. No window cutting required. X-Wheels now baby, so it'll be awhile for the next set.

NO you dont have to cut your track to get the hyfax out and changed. The hyfax will slide out of the windows on the track, you just have to put a flat head screw driver through the opening and wiggle it around the hyfax. Trust me it can be done.

I gave one of the guys I ride with sh-t for paying 80bucks at a dealer to do it. I told him about putting it in reverese and pealing them off that way. He could not figure out what I was telling him so I invited him over and we changed my hyfax on my 09 XTX. I joked with him and told him to time me. (mind you this was here a couple weeks ago, warm weather. not covered with ice and snow) I had my sled up on my lift and told him to start his timing when started unscrewing the screws of the hyfax.

Total Time off and on just over 6 minutes.

Remember that is in a warm garage and with sled on a lift. No cutting, just a screw driver (impact), a rubber malet and wd40 (to put the new ones on)

Agreed...this is how I've always done it, never an issue.

I would say yes, not only to get them off, but to install the new ones easier.

As a snowmobiling noob I could use some advice as to what to inspect when determining if the hyfax is worn and needs replacing?

I use a 10mm wrench and if it fits between the bottom of the slider and the upper lip, it is time to change.
