I was reading ATV sports magazine and saw an item that MAY either work for us as is or could be designed for the RX-1. After reading this article I want one of these BAD for my RX-1! Here is the majority of the article.

Duncan racing is the exclusive importer of the VortexCDI programmable ignition systems. They are designed and manufactured in Australia and sold through Duncan racing here in the US.
The Vortex units are dual curve programmable CDIs.
The magazine tested one on a Yamaha YF450 Quad and were amazed at the results! They said the installation was easier than expected and went smoothly. The craftsmanship is great. It's small, compact and fits int he stock CDI location.
On the track they initially couldn't tell much until they raced another YZ450 without the Vortex CDI. The part they liked best was with this CDI the rev limiter was GONE. They kept saying "this motor just keeps pulling and pulling"!
They let a few other YZF owners ride the test unit without telling them they had added the Vortex CDI. Once they were finished, they all asked, "who did your motor"? After telling them it hadn't had any head or or cylinder work many of them called us liars!
They sum the article up with this: "This is a mandatory addition for any YZF owner who is serious about racing. Dare we say it's just as important as a pipe? The over all improvement the Vortex CDI supplied was great. The Vortex system is an ideal bolt on!
The Vortex CDI igniton is well worth the $399 retail price. Aside from the YZF, Duncan racing carries the Vortex system for at least 10 other sport quads.

Check out the link! It explains more of the technical aspects of the product. Perhaps Supertuner or Simmon's CPR could hook us up with these units tailored for our sleds? Deal me in! I want one!

did they need to run race fuel(high octane)?also i dont think rpm shut down is a problem on the rx-1.these product analisys's in mags are usually overstated on performance and understated on installaition.not to be negative or anything.

I think Simmons has been working on a version of his own for some time now.

I don't know if they used race fuel or not. it didn't say in the article. I sure hope someone has one for us soon. The number for Duncan racing is: 619-258-6306 maybe there is already a unit for the R-1 motorcycle that could be applied to our application?

Fb. : Are you mixing up this programable ignition module with a programable fuel injection module (like a Power Commander)?

I'm not sure but I'd bet the Yamaha ATV they were testing is carbed not fuel injection. I believe it's a stand alone unit that doesn't tie into fuel flow in any way.
Now, if you had an EFI machine and it was all controlled by the one central CDU you would probably be correct in suspecting that fule flow as well as ignition timing may be altered to improve performance. I honestly don't know.

I have one of the Vortex CDI boxes on my Predator ATV and it does work. I do not have to run race fuel. It definately made my atv quicker and allowed it to rev higher.
