Before I get to the cool news I'd like to say I wish there were one "General four stroke" forum where someone could post information such as this so most people on their individual sled forums don't miss it. We all have a lot more in common than different individual forums may suggest.

Cycle World November 05 states:

Yamaha has just introduced their new R-1 for 06 and it has 175 hp.

The new R6 revs to 17,500 RPM and has 140 hp.

The new FZ1 appears to get the Apex engine and 150 hp and EFI

Oh man! The Apex motor is incredible but can you imagine the R1 engine in an even lighter weight Apex chassis? I can.........................................

That would be awesome but yamaha has been false claiming hp # for years on their r1's.

Cycle World doesn't sound like Yamaha to me...indepent tests

Take it easy auskin's.I didn't know cycle world dynoed them yet I thought they had an article of what yamaha told them just like when the new sleds come out and different manufactures have their claimed hp in the magazines before the magazine dyo's them.

I thought the sled engine was based off the motorcycle engine, not motorcyle based off the sled. Just different crank, pistons, heads, etc and less horsepower for the sled. I was told you could convert the RX's but it was expensive.

Actual real world Dyno tests on the R1 puts the HP at about 158 at the rear wheel. Those are real bikes that are not special tuned dropped off for mags to test. They are scary fast dont get me wrong but 175 is at the crank or a made up number

Yes, the numbers I posted were from the cover of Cycle World.
I don't think they have done any dyno testing just yet. The numbers sure got my attention, so I thought some of you might go "WOW" too.
After all, the Genesis for our snowmobile engines started with this engine and the amount of power they seem to be able to squeeze out of it amazes me! Of course, I always hope for the trickle down of technology to end up in one of my snowmobiles some day.
