Freddie,

The 1000 cc 4 cylinder engine used in the 2006 sleds is reported to have 150 hp. The engine used in the R1 sportbike (4 cylinder, 1000 CC, 5 valves per cylinder, FI) is reported in several cycle magazines as making 175 hp. Other than the abscence of the reduction gear on the output of the sled engine, what do you think is different about these 2 engines? The R1 bike engine is super reliable, so we should be able to develop that level of power in the Apex/ Attack engine. Cams, timing, compression, higher flow head?? Thanks!

The R1 motorycles have the ram air which is worth about 4 HP at 120 MPH. They also have different camshafts, camshaft timing and compression ratios are higher.

It has been my experience that whatever motorcycle or snowmobiles magazines claim for HP, deduct 10% to 12% and you will be pretty close.

The wider range of aftermarket exhaust systems and the fact that they have Dynojet Power Commanders available for the fuel injected models of motorcycles allow us to tune the motorycles to a much higher degree.
