donut gaskets
Hey guys A tip I use in fwd cars as 95% use donut gaskets is remove the pipes clean the inside of the cone of the pipe of all the rust and gasket material until it is smooth and shiny and coat it with a paste of copper anti sieze this wil help the pipes pivot on the gaskets as their designed purpose as heat and rust are the biggest causes of wear of these gaskets and why there is no consistent mileage between sled as we all ride in different conditions

snoway said:I would get yourself a set of exhaust donuts with those miles.I just performed the job on an 05 rage and an 08 vecter with about 4500 miles on each.
the vecter had one completely gone with the other 2 on there way.
the rage was not quite as bad but they were breaking apart and i don't think it would be too long b4 they were toast.
I found that the easiest way to pull the pipes back far enough to slip in the new donuts is to drill out the 8- 3/16" rvets that hold the bracket that the pipes bolt to.
the 2 allen hd. bolts that hold the pipe are hard to get loose and even if you do the bracket hooks the pipes in such a way that it doesn't allow them to move back far enough.
Which means each manifold needs to be unbolted from the head.

exaust gaskets
I just did mine last week (2005 Venture 7500 miles), after having tightened the clamps i saw the one clamp (center) was still loose. The clamp has a sleave that bottomes out to prevent from over tightening the clamp. mine was bottomed out and still loose, I filed down the sleave until all the loose was gone. File a bit than try it for size and do again making shure you do not take too mutch off. The sides of the clamp are almost touching, next time I will probably need a new clamp.

Just replaced my donuts yesterday. After removing clamps and looking, there were no donuts. Should of checked a couple thousand miles ago.

Drilled out bracket to allow manifold pipe to be moved back

I replaced them again last year at about 8500 miles. I reduced the clamp size to get it clamped tighter .
Use stainless or OEM hardened aluminum rivets when re fastening bracket

Thanks Snoway!
Any other tips to offer on the R&R of the donuts?
Does anybody out there have a pic where is shows where you grind down the clamp to get it to clamp tighter?
Or take an existing photo and photoshop it to show where to grind?
Somebody out there suggested to use a sealant that has copper in it. Anybody try this and did it help?
Thanks

look at the clamps in the second or last pic ,...where the allen hd. bolt goes through, cut or grind about an 1/8" off the round spacer... the copper rtv might help too by absorbing the vibration that wears down the donut.
