My right one worked itself loose this week and took out the right spindle as well as the ball joint. Needless to say hoping Y.E.S. will pick this up too. Does anyone know on hear if you have to take off that upper ball joint bolt to do the lower ball joint recall? I had a little over 5k on this sled when the dealer did my recall maybe 300 miles later it came lose and destroyed everything it went through. Im just wondering if it did not get tightened and locktited up properly. parts 47-49 + spindle

That's a Nyloc-type nut on the bolt. For it to back off all by its lonesome it might have been defective or on and off the bolt several times, making it ineffective. Loctite wouldn't be called for on a self-locking nut.

If they pulled the lower a-arm (a lot of work) to replace the ball joint it's not strictly necessary to remove the top ball joint bolt too. If they pushed the lower ball out with the spindle still on the sled (as I have done) then it's more likely the spindle and upper bolt was removed.

Just got my recall notice today for the right a arm bolt. They are saying the problem is with a burr on the a arm that wears and then the nut may loosen due to improper torque setting. The fix sounds like locktite

Both my 08 and now my 09, have had the upper ball joint bolts come loose. It actually fell out on my 08, luckily I stopped as it didnt feel right so I didnt have any damage. I have replaced both bolts with a #12 bolt with nyloc nut and red lock tight this year with no problems to date. Keep a close eye on those upper ball joint bolts, theres something not right with the nuts for them to be coming loose.

Yammi left me hangin high and dry on this one! So much for that bumper to bumper Y.E.S. warranty.

I had mine come loose, but I believe it was installer error. When I did my final assembly I might have forgot to tighten that side + loctite. I loctite EVERY BOLT I INSTALL, I dont care if its a self locking or not, cheap insurance when you 100 miles away in the bush!

I hear you there!!

I just took my 08 apart last week for the first time, to do the ball joint mod, and mine was loc-tited from factory.

Then they've gone for the belt and suspenders approach on this connection. I don't recall if my sled had Loctite on this bolt, but it's not typical to use two locking agents. In fact, it's not called out in the service manual as a requirement.

Obviously, it's not a bad idea, if you've pulled the ball joint off, to use a thread locker on this critical joint when reinstalling the nut. Normally, the Nyloc nuts perform well enough on their own, but it is usually suggested to replace them if after removal because the Nylon can take a set and become ineffective.

I dont think mine were Nyloc nuts. I believe they called them flange nuts. Then I said trade the sled in and the dealer wanted to charge me retail with the $500 Yammi rebate. The season here is half over WTF

I just had mine off and both of them had a locking agent OEM on the Nyloc's.
