new ball joint mod?

caster is the angle from top ball joint to bottom ball joint front to back. camber is the same only side to side. not the angle of the spindle.

Actually if you want to be technical:
Spindle holds the ski in place and attaches to the upper and lower a-arms.
Caster, is the angle between the pivot line(an imaginary line that runs through the center of the upper ball joint to the center of the lower ball joint) and vertical. Which your right!
Camber, is the angle between the vertical axis of the ski and the vertical axis of the sled when viewed from the front or rear. If the top of the spindle is farther out than the bottom (that is, away from the axle), it is called positive camber; if the bottom of the spindle is farther out than the top, it is called negative camber.
Just Saying...

In doing this layout I think you may have a problem with binding if the line through the axis (mounting holes) of the two ball joints are not well aligned. I would recommend that you have your shop show you other sleds where they've done this mod. I didn't spend too much time on this but it looks a little iffy to me.

If it works, what you're changing is the trail of the spindle - although there are varying definitions on this term. You can see in the model below that the ski mounting hole has shifted between the blue and red spindles when I moved the top mounting hole 5mm. I created these models with a number of simplifications but the main idea is represented - I think.

Nicely Done!!!! That pretty much says it all. ;)!

I would love to hear some input from someone that actually did this, maybe I will ask him to give me a reference (b4 I decide to do this) and see what they thought....will keep you posted...if it does work it may be an alternative to the ball joint mod. Wish I bought the spindles I saw cheap on ebay a month ago.
