checking chain case oil

I just bought an 06 apex and was checking the level which reads high if I fully seat the stick or due you check it like the engine oil? The manual is a little vague. Tnks Jim

Check it with the dipstick fully seated in the chaincase.

That is what I thought, I have reverse and it is filled to std level.
