Clearance Problem with 136 M-10 in RX1

Hey guys,

I put a 136 M-10 in the 03 RX1 along with the tunel extention. The M-10 has a big wheel kit on it. I found that if the suspension is collapsed the end of the tunnel protectors go right into the track. I can extend the tunnel protectors but is that going to work or do I need to put the stock rear idler shaft back in? Wondering if anyone has had this problem before?

Assuming that the skid is installed per spec and that spec is correct, it is no doubt designed for stock size rear wheels. Big wheels will cause reduced clearance. If all you do is extend the tunnel protectors, then the suspension will bottom out against the tunnel protectors - it should NOT, the suspension has bottom stoppers for this purpose. I would check what stock wheels will do for clearance. If it is still an issue, I would think that the spec that you mounted the skid to is for 121" skids as longer suspensions will require more clearance at the rear.

Thanks for the reply LB. I talked to FAST when I installed it and they said to install it the exact same way you would install a 121 version. I do feel that the stock wheels will work as they are I believe 2" or more smaller. I will just loose more top end is all. I to feel that the suspention will be bottoming out on the tunnel instead of with the stops which would cause problems.

ADBoivin told me the same thing when I cornered them on the same issue for my 144". They said to follow the 121" spec. If I did that, it would bottom on the tunnel extension even with the tunnel protectors all removed and with stock back wheels. Ended up having to mount the rear points 1/2" lower than spec to gain the clearance. On ExpertX, that 1/2" probably worked out to about 3" at the rear wheels, M10 rear mount point is much further back, so it would have to be a greater drop per the required clearance, assuming that you want to keep with the big wheels or still don't have enough clearance.

I thought about lowering the rear mounting holes but with the M-10's limited transfer settings I fear that I would be in full couple and would have absolutly no transer what so ever. I can't lower the front mounting location so I am kind of skrewed there. I think i am going to have to take the big wheel kit off and try that. I hope that will do it.

What height track are you running, and are you using studs? I had a 136x2 mounted with removal of the tunnel protectors and cutting off of the exhaust support piece where it sitcks down where the 121 flap position was. I went to 151 with 8" wheels and dropped the rear mount point 1 1/2 in which was more than needed.

I am running a 1.25" ripsaw with studs down the middle.
